Castles:modding existing guild halls
You know what I like about my guild? The people, and then it ends there. The guild hall itself is nothing more than some stranger's guild hall which looks exactly the same. The effort of 'putting into' a guild hall is nothing more than the addition of npc's. Why not allow for the modding of guildhalls? The core materials are already there, wood planks, iron ingots, etc, to allow the building of fortifications, among other things. This is an opportunity to really get into siege warfare and the like. Additional npc's such as archers or more warriors given a limit would also be included. This will effectively make two branches, the rated gvg, and then the pve gvg allowing for modded guildhall battles. What fun it would be to have a top ranked pvp guild do a pve gvg just for fun, rather than just the stylized dogmatic same old routine. Given this option, players can be more dedicated to building up their guildhalls to fit their style, rather than just reach max upgrades from the guild lord. And it would be nice to have some pvp guild members be tricked into a moat of lava for once. On a side note, imbuing the material components would also be good. For example, when building a fortification, if you deposit mursaat tokens, then the finished product will have the mursaat sheen, or celestial essences would make it have the starry glow. What do you guys think?
~The design aspects are not free form, but would rather have to already be implemented in the guildhalls as an option, much like the addition of npc's. At every stage of construction however, players have an option to branch out via given choices; "You want a tower? Choose tower placement. How many levels high is this tower? What kind of tower? Will there be npc's in this tower? Do you wish to imbue the materials of this tower?" rather than I want a pink tower with a heavy metal band logo of pink horsies drawn only by me. There won't be any skill balance problems, because this will just be for fun, unrated. This modding of guildhalls to guild uniqueness and player style is to get players more involved into their guildhalls as more than a mere meeting place, and also as a venture of fun. "Hey guys, let's see if we can take on this castle, we'll be outnumbered and I hear this guild loves freaking hiding daze inducing traps on the field."

no way this will be implemented.
Way too much work. Balancing updates and stuff.
If modding Guild halls then maybe like other mods so only you can see it. its allowered if you dont change the game client.
But thats all thats gonna be possible.

But no way they will implement this. I like the idea...but it just won't happen. Plus it would mess up the balancing.

Very fun idea, I think you are on the right track. Perhaps you could tie in faction reward points with the upgrades using not only material but faction points to purchase the upgrades.
I like it.
I think it would be more feasible if it was a guild only activity. Guild members that participate in the siege missions would earn guild rep or guild loyalty points. Points for protecting your guild, I think the guild only missions and quest would encourage guild participation and offer a fun non-pvp option for guilds who only play pve and do not want to play GvG.
You could have a char invasion mission for istance, anyways I think the guild halls do need to play a larger role in guild wars besides a meeting place and a PvP map.
Sounds like fun idea, tell me what you think

This would definitely be fun, both designing and playing. Though like the posters above me, I doubt they would add something like this.

/signed with all positive comments above. But as already said, they won't add this. Maybe in GW2.

Hm... having to pay to get extra repair sets or being able to choose the type of siege weapons by buying separate ones...?
Hm... if PvP-only characters had a way to sell the Zaishen stuff they get for that without wasting time in outposts of forums... or if they were purchasable with balthazar factin, they could be something to consider...
Anyways, it's a bit too late now for that. Although this and the 'customize scrimages' options are both nice ideas for the Halls that would greatly help to decrease the PvP downhill.

IMHO, a Celestial Sigil being the only prerequsite for a GH was... wrong since day one. It would make much more sense (and add to gameplay experience) if it required crafting materials. Clay Bricks anyone?

Lol, Yeah maybe making people work a little harder to start a guild would be a better idea, Perhaps it would cut down alot of... I just think its good idea lol. Having to prove yourself some way before any joe could start a guild would be nice.

Would it be fun? Yes. Would it be the most horribly unbalanced idea in the history of the game? Yes. I'd construct a bubble around my Guild Lord, radius just slightly bigger than the agro bubble, with a second ring on the inside to keep him from moving. Oops, you can't get close enough to him to hurt him now, I win

It can be wroked a lot.
With wood and steel you could choose between types of siege weaponry.
With clay bricks you could choose where the walls would be, not to add more or less walls.
There is not need to make an stronhold. But it could be a way to customie your battlefield.

Yeah, they need to make making a guild more difficult then just "pay 100g to start, pay 2k for cape, pay 1k for alliance, pay 10-20k/get a celestial sigil for hall, pay 100g per invite, YOUR SET!" Making it harder to make a guild would decrease the amount and make it easier to recruit then, less people making 1-10 man guilds, more people without guilds that want them.

You do know, that some people prefer small guilds over large guilds, correct?
Seems like too much work for a completed game imo, let them focus on gw2.

My current guild is around 70 members (all active), of which I only ever play with about 10 (at most).
I like the idea of more customization on Guild Hall, but someone would have to explain how this either will or will not affect GvG.
